Characteristics of the Trauma Hospital
The Trauma Hospital in Brno is a medical facility with supra-regional competence. The basic task of the institute is specialized medical and preventive care and scientific research activities in the field of traumatology and surgery. The fields of urology, orthopaedics and rehabilitation and anaesthesiology and resuscitation are an integral part of the comprehensive care at the Trauma Hospital. Outpatient consultative services are provided in the fields of neurology, internal medicine, gynaecology, ENT, psychology, psychiatry and dentistry.
The main programme of the Trauma Hospital is to fulfil the tasks of a trauma centre with supra-regional competence. The Trauma Centre is conceived as a multidisciplinary surgical workplace, dealing with trauma and emergency surgery. The idea is built on a team of highly specialised experts in each individual surgical area. All this is supported by a newly built emergency admission room.
More than half of the patients admitted to the Trauma Hospital are acute trauma or acute surgical patients.
From 1 June 2012, on the basis of the Concept of Brno Medical Facilities, the Brno Trauma Hospital took over the care of acute surgical and trauma patients from the catchment area of the Hospital of Merciful Brothers, where the surgical inpatient emergency service was abolished.
Together with its own catchment area, the ÚN provides care for surgical patients for the 120,000 inhabitants of Brno on weekdays from 3 pm to 7 am and 24 hours on weekends and holidays. A more detailed analysis of the patients treated at the ÚN outpatient clinic by place of residence shows that more than half of the patients treated are from outside Brno. It can then be concluded that the hospital provides care for almost 400 000 inhabitants of the South Moravian Region.
The premises of the Trauma Hospital house the Medical Emergency Service (MES), a service established by the South Moravian Region. Here, the service is performed by general practitioners with the minimum equipment prescribed by the decree, and in the event of the need for further examinations, treatment or hospitalisation, patients are sent to the relevant medical facilities according to their place of residence.
